RAGTIME BEDQUILTS
My Ragtime Bedquilt designs are based upon small paper collages I make from cut up National Geographics and Color-Aid paper. I use each collage as a visual reference only... no scaled-up enlargements or templates. I just look at the small collage and then begin cutting big pieces of fabric. That is how I instill these quilts with a kinetic energy that, to my mind, "looks like ragtime jazz sounds". Just as in ragtime: sure, there's a basic melody, but that melody is wide open to soaring interpretations and variations. Though the finished product may look like haphazard piecing, each quilt is carefully designed and the amount of curved piecing and inset angle piecing I must do to achieve that spontaneous look pose quite a challenge!
Each Ragtime Bedquilt is double-sided; there's an entirely different quilt on the back side!
